New Initiative: P.R.A.Y.A.S. Started at NanoBio Lab of IIT Kharagpur; 1st meet was in Jan-2023

A new initiative called P.R.A.Y.A.S which stands for Promoting Research Awareness in Young Academicians and Scientists was started by NanoBio Lab and his team on the 30th of January. The initiative was manifested and adapted by Prof Ranjan from PRABODH, a monthly event conducted by Prof Chaitanya Joshi, Director of Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre, DST - Govt of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Principal Investigator, Dr Shivendu Ranjan, has released the logo of PRAYAS designed by Mr. Rohan Dutta, intern of NanoBio Lab.

The rules of this event are:

  • PRAYAS is a research scholars-driven event organized by scholars for the scholars

  • The presenter has to choose a topic from a field that he/she is not currently working on

  • The research paper should be of quality

  • The audience will ask in-depth questions about the presentation followed by the presentation, and there should not be any redundancy in the questions asked.

Mr Anupam Ghosh, a Research Scholar of NanoBio Lab, started the event with a brief introduction of PRAYAS and further introduced the Speaker along with the topic of the talk.

Mr. Rohan Dutta, MSc Dissertation Student from VIT, Vellore, was chosen as the first speaker for the session. His topic was – “A critical evaluation of nanopesticides and nanofertilizers against their conventional analogues”. The session started with an introductory speech by Mr Anupam Ghosh, one of the Ph.D. scholars of NBRL followed by the presentation. Mr Nishank Verma, a scholar from the School of Nano Science and Technology, was serving on the jury that would score the presenter based on the presentation and the audience based on the depth of their questions.

According to Mr. Dutta, “It was a very knowledge-enriching session for me as it allowed me to gather knowledge on a topic that I had not previously studied and brought about confidence after the presentation. This initiative not only helped me learn how to interpret a statistical study but also helped me understand how to read the literature thoroughly and find out the study's lacuna. This initiative is vital to research awareness, especially among young academicians. The whole event could not have been successful without the whole team's support”.

Mr Sayak Roy Chowdhury, PhD, gave the final vote of thanks. Scholar of NBRL followed by a group photo.
